Links
Who was it said "Links pages are the mix tapes of the 21st century"? We think it was probably us, but we were drunk at the time.
What we think we meant was that just as in the old days, when the choice of songs you recorded onto a cassette was meant to convey to the recipient (usually female and extremely reluctant) what kind of person you were (invariably wild and rebellious, but with a sensitive side), nowadays the links page fulfils a similar function (albeit without the distant prospect of copping off as a result). God only knows, then, what the sites listed below say about the proprietors of SUB.
Anyhoo, that's enough psycho-babble: below are various links which might be of interest to you. Alternatively, just click on one to get you the hell out of here!
The daddy of them all! - without whom none of this would have been possible. I just hope they can sleep at night.
| Strathclyde Passenger Transport | For all the latest details on the Glasgow Underground, including train times, ticket prices, news etc. SUB's white, orange and black colour scheme is an unashamed tribute to the previous SPT livery - which changed pretty much as soon as we went online (and has since changed again)! |
Other pubcrawl sites - we're not the only ones (scary thought, isn't it?)
| Circle Line Pub Crawl | Check out the "that London" equivalent of the subcrawl. Excellent site. These guys came up to Glasgow for the "world record" subcrawl (which is more than can be said for us!). Their photos of the big event can be found on their respective home pages (see Photo Diary IV for details). |
| Midlands Metro Pub Crawl | The same duo as above (Nack and Les) are also responsible for this new site on the Wolverhampton-Birmingham tram crawl. About time the Midlands had a bit of culture, we say. |
| London Men's Self-Help Pub Crawl Group | Another London-based underground pubcrawl site. Only this lot do a different crawl every time. Lao Tsu would say that no-one ever does the same "super-Sub" twice... |
| Glasgow University Student Television | Some cracking stuff on this site, not least the photographs and 13 minute video of the "World Record 2" subcrawl (Apple Quicktime needed). |
| Maddog's den | Following his return to the "States", Mr Dog's once-proud site is now little more than a rump - but it still includes the marvellous "Escalator of Doom" MPEG video. |
| Glasgow Sub Crawl | These fine folk may hide behind a blanket of anonymity, but have produced a lovely little site dedicated to a particular subcrawl they undertook in February 2004. Here's hoping they produce more of the same! |
| Offshore Subcrawl | Top site detailing the escapades of a group of rig workers who like nothing better than to spend their shore leave subcrawling. They've managed two so far - look out for details of further activities. |
| Beer By Tram | We can only applaud this initiative by the Nottingham Tram Consortium, who are taking active steps to encourage local drinkers to take advantage of that city's excellent public transport infrastructure. We may have to check it out sometime! |
Miscellaneous - some of these are kind of tangentially semi-related to the subcrawl. Others aren't.
| Eurohostel | Those of you looking for an inexpensive but clean place to stay the night before (or after) a sub could do a lot worse than check out this place, which is located very close to St Enoch Square. Remember to be on your best behaviour, though! |
| Streetmap | Excellent free street maps of anywhere in Great Britain. Ideal for finding out exactly where you are the morning after a subcrawl. |
| Multimap | Another extremely helpful set of maps for pub-location. Helpful Hint: for that really amateurish website look, why not link to both Multimap and Streetmap on different pages of the same site? |
| Glasgow Survival | A seminal anthropological work on that most curious of creatures, Neddus Glasvegicus - a.k.a. the common Glasgow Ned. |
| The Dancing Shatners | "Mummy . . . I'm SCARED . . ." |
| Talk Like A Pirate | September 19 is national Talk Like A Pirate Day. On the other 364 days, its just fun. All together now - "AAAAAARRR!!!" |
| The Chap Magazine | If your subcrawl drink of choice is a large Talisker "sans glace", a perfect dry Martini, or even an Absinthe, then this site is for you. Substance abuse at its decadent and sartorial best. |
| Ban Comic Sans | The case against "the world's most overused font". Sad and OTT or typographical terrorism at its best? You decide. |
| Glasgow Herald | Scotland's top broadsheet (i.e."big pages, no pictures, not enough football") newspaper, which occasionally mentions us in its Diary page. |
| Mad Mike's World Tour | Quite remarkable site from a man who was once left stranded in a curry house toilet at the end of a Sub while everyone else did a "runner". He's called Mike. It's a world tour...figure out the rest for yourself. |
| Glasgow Big Ad | Advertising site based on the "Million Dollar Webpage" notion (i.e. you pay for an ad on the page based on pixel size. Notable for it's SUB-endorsed "Subcrawl Challenge" - see the Magazine page for details. Those successfully completing the sub have a chance to win a t-shirt, something we always meant to do but never got round to/couldn't be arsed (delete as appropriate). |
| Party Glasgow | New site which aims to let you know where to go for a "happening" time in the old city (what do you mean The Star Bar is "happening" enough for you?). |
| Glasgow Islay AFC | Football club set up in Glasgow by expats of the marvellous Isle of Islay, home (IOHO) of some, nay MOST of the planet's great alcoholic beverages. Known to do the odd subcrawl. |
